Signature Blocks Fantastic Beasts Quilt Along

Signature Blocks Fantastic Beasts Quilt Along.

Signature Blocks Fantastic Beasts Quilt Along

Whenever I take part in a quilt along, the hosts always ask for a Signature Block. It is in no way compulsory, it is for those who would like to send one to the designer.  And to be honest, the quilt along I have been taking part in, the patterns are always free, so it is a big pleasure to send the designer / host a signature block.

So what do the designers to with the signature blocks?

Well, you can turn them into a memory quilt. How awesome!

That’s why, when I ran my very first quilt along last year, (Fantastic Beasts) I decided to do the same thing. I chose a simple paper pieced block. The participants can choose any fabric choices regarding color and pattern and put their name, place where they stay and the Quilt Along name.

And as you can see from my photo above, that is the layout I was thinking of using for my memory quilt.

The blocks have been arriving from all over the world.  I love how it is looking already.

Some of the really awesome participants, even added some really cool extras in their packages, which was a complete surprise.

Here is some close ups of some of the blocks I have received. At the moment, I could get away with a wall hanging or a table topper. And that is OK. I know that there is some more on the way, which is great.

I am sure I had more photo’s but these is the ones I have for now. Will add the rest when I find them.

What I was thinking with these signature blocks, would be to continue on with them through to the end of this year, as I will be running my second Fantastic Beasts Quilt Along from September to end December 2017. Anyone taking part in the second quilt along is welcome to send me a signature block then.

Did you miss the first quilt along?

As mentioned at the 1 photo, Gail Conner, one of my participants sent me a block a couple of week before she passed away after a long illness.

Her family let me know, and it was a blow. I only knew her through the Facebook group, but everyone is always chatting and sharing there, that everyone feels like family.

For any of her family who might be reading this post, my sincere condolences for your loss.

Star Trek Quilt Top Complete

Star Trek Quilt Top Complete

My fellow Star Trek fans, the quilt top is complete. I just need to find the perfect backing for it and get quilting.

Check it out, isn’t it the best thing you have ever seen?

Star Trek Quilt Top Complete

(really need to work on my quilt photography)

I will post a nice photo once the quilt top is quilted.

Most of the block patterns are mine, but there are some other designers in there as well. You can find them on my Star Trek page here.

Or on Fandom in Stitches

and Some can be found on Sewhooked

Originally I thought it would be a good idea to have both black and brown starry fabric for the background. It doesn’t look to bad, but I think I would have gone with just the black background.

Also these Star Trek patterns were some of the first patterns I designed when I just started designing. And there was no plan of action on anything at all. I just designed willy nilly.

So when it came time to put them all together it became a problem, I had to add fabric to some, and trim off on others to make them all fit together.

Since them I have planned all my quilt tops, to ligically fit together, so that it does not become a problem for other quilters to put together.

Now!

I know there has not been any new Star Trek patterns posted recently, but there is a reason for that. I a planning a Star Trek quilt along for 2018. It is themed The Next Generation. Whoohoo, my favorite series. So all the patterns being designed is specifically for the quilt along and cannot be share yet.

If you would like a quilt along based on the other series as well, no worries they are coming as well. But you can help me decide which one will be next.

Please comment below or fill in the the contact form below and let me know what type of Star Trek theme or a completely other theme you would like to see.

Paper Piecing Vintage update

Paper Piecing Vintage update

Hey everyone!

As mentioned in my crafty updates post. I decided that I would only join one quilt along this year, as I have to many of my own projects that needs finishing up, loads of patterns and quilts on the way…

I chose to join in with Jennifer Ofenstein at Sewhooked for her quilt along this year.  And it is called Paper Piecing Vintage.

You can also follow Jennifer in her Facebook group. You have got to see some of the awesome blocks being posted there by other PPV quilters.

These are the blocks I have made so far.

Paper Piecing Vintage update

It was so difficult to choose a color scheme for this quilt, I went through my stash and first was going for a range of cream to browns, and then it was purple.

But in the end I decided on a scrappy pink and white with a touch of green.

And a close up of all the blocks.

I have a couple of blocks left to do to be able to finish the quilt top. Can’t wait for it to be finished.

Dragon Quilt Adventure

Dragon Quilt Adventure

The Dragon Quilt Adventure

Hey everyone,

In January I mentioned I was working on the Dragons, and I am finally finished. And my brother has received his dragon quilt, bonus he is very happy with it.

Here is a picture of all the dragons separately.

I just love all these dragons, they were such fun to sew. They are all 12″ patterns and paper pieced.

Here is the finished quilt, just before I gave it to my brother, the photo obviously needs lots of improvement.

The Dragon Quilt Adventure

I did some pebbling on the dragon’s skin, and straight line stitching. The background is a small meander.

I used marble fabric for the sashing and pebble fabric for the binding strips. To attach all the blocks. The center panels was quilted separate to the borders. So it was semi quilt as you go.

All these patterns is designed by Michelle Thompson from misha29 are available for free.

Plus they are also available on the Fandom In Stitches.

And with this finished quilt I completed UFO #1. Whoohoo.

Now on to the next adventure.

Crafty Updates

I am carving out some time to work on some much needed quilts, that has been promised for awhile now.

Quilt UFO 1 – The Dragon Quilt, this one is for my brother. And I meant to have a dragon quilt done for Christmas, …. last year.

I had every intention of designing the dragons for this quilt, but time was not on my side.

These dragon patterns was designed by Michelle Thompson, a very talented pattern designer. You can see more of her work on her blog Misha29.

Plus the patterns are featured on Fandom in Stitches as well.

This is the first to done, need to finished another 4 dragons,  … I think.

The patterns are all 12 inches. I will be adding wide borders to make it bigger so it fits my brothers body.

Quilting Therapy

Quilting Therapy …

Is the name of my new and first pattern for 2017. It is a very easy paper pieced pattern, perfect for beginners.

The idea came to me one day, as I was commenting to someone about not needing a psychologist, as quilting is my therapy.  It is what I do at the end of every day, after a day at work. Basically every spare minute I have.  What about you, do you find quilting therapeutic? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.

(Need to work on my quilting photography)

The pattern has the capsule template, plus the layout instructions for a crib, twin and queen sized bed quilts.  Clicking on the picture above will take you to my Craftsy Shop.

I had a bit of fun here, as I included a bunch of “special” fabric. This therapy quilt, as jelly beans candy, umbrellas for rainy weather, some African birds, flower, apples, yarn etc. You know, things that makes us happy.  Plus some random fabric, that could look like things you will find in capsules.

So there you have it.

There is another project I finished this year, but I cannot show you yet, as it is for a blog hop coming up 20 January. The theme is winter and it is hosted by Marian from Seams to be Sew. Link in the picture.

The 3rd pattern is just about finished. I designed an applique Star Wars pattern. I made the square, just have to finished up the pattern and will then share it here for free. Look out for that in the next couple of days.

And I sewed up another BB8 block, this one is 20″ in size, a paper pieced pattern.

Clicking on the picture will take you to my Craftsy shop for the free download or you can download BB8 at Fandom in Stitches, there is a whole bunch of other Star Wars patterns there as well.

And that’s me for today. I hope everyone had a super awesome start of the year.
