I Wish You A Merry QAL Block Four Plus Prizes

Before I get to block 4!

Did you know, besides the prizes you can win each week, there is also a big prize for everyone who posts a finished quilt at the end.

Here are some of the sponsors for the BIG prize that you can win at the end of the quilt along.

And now for block 4.

This block is designed by Jennifer Fulton from The Inquiring Quilter (click this link for the pattern download page). It is a Christmas Memories block.

Fabric selection for this block.

I chose my shiniest fabric I could find in my stash.

Here is my version of the block.

The gold fabric is supposed to be wrinkly, don’t laugh.

Tip for this block.

Read the instructions carefully, measure twice, cut once and place your shapes carefully.

In saying that, this is your block, use your creative license.

Now that I have made the block, I would probably have not used some of the shiny slippery fabric, as it slid around to much and drove me crazy.

Quilt as you go…

Because this block s applique, I decided to appplique once I made up the quilt sandwich. In the same way, that I made block 1. As you applique through all the layers, you will be quilting it at the same time.

Use any applique stitch you feel comfortable with. By hand or machine.

In block 1, I used a satin stitch. But chose a machine blanket stitch for the memory block. To show how this looks, I used white thread throughout, so that it is visible.

Stitch around all the pieces with your chosen stitch.

I made a mistake below and forgot to lengthen my stitch.

To finish of the block, I echo stitched around the bottom edges of the ornaments, to fill in the large white spaces.

The Hosts for the Quilt Along

Plus they will help answer any questions you may have. And it will be awesome to see all the different fabric that is being used by every host, to help you make a decision for your own.

  1. Another great version of this block. I love the use of the shiny fabrics. So much fun in one block.

  2. I love the shiny fabrics! I also know they can so fussy to work with sometimes. I have a friend who is all about shiny fabric, and she always puts a lightweight stabilizer on the back of hers. I have no idea if this helps that much, but I thought I’d share it. Your quilting tips are wonderful!

  3. Your blocks looks very realistic with the shiny fabrics. Nice job!
