Checkerboard – Play with me QAL

Wow, we are into out second week of January already. And what a first week it was. Busy, busy, busy.

In between many other things, I decided to tackle the Play with me QAL with alidatweloqdesigns.

Alida has 9 wonderful boards to make into either place-mats, zip / roll-up bags and a pick-nick sized quilt.

Each block will showcase a different technique and can be done as a quilt as you go method. I am happy about this, as I have not tried quilt as you go yet. So that will be a first for me.

This one below is the first block, the checkerboard.

This ones used bargello piecing, which was also a first for me. (Which is weird, since I have made way more advanced stuff)

And was a very easy technique to use.

Alida, give very detailed information on each block, how to make the block. And teaches you the technique, in such a way that even absolute beginners can follow along.

I am very excited to see what she has planned for us next.

If you want to quilt along with us, here is the link below.

There isn’t much else I can show at the moment, as I am busy with a commissioned piece that needs to be finished in the next week.

I will show more of that one later.

Till next time.

Thank you to all of my followers for all of your support and lovely comments.

  1. Good job–I do enjoy bargello–fast and fun.

  2. Great board! I also discovered bargello pretty recently and I did more advanced techniques first. Sometimes it is good to have a technique that does not require too much thinking in the bag 🙂 I am happy you enjoyed the tutorial and thanks for sharing the block in the linky!!

Thanks Alida, thank you for teaching us new techniques. I am stuck on the same old thing all the time. I can’t wait for the quilt as you go tips. I haven’t tried that yet. Usually just fmq over the whole top.
