Wow! I was completely blown away by everyone’s Snowflakes these past 2 weeks. And I am so glad that some of you are quilting as you go with me. Super awesome.
Before I get to block 2, did you know! Beside the prizes you can win each week, there is also a big prize for everyone who posts a finished quilt at the end.
Here are some of the sponsors for the BIG prize that you can win at the end of the quilt along.
And now for block 2.
This block is designed by April Adams from Janda Bend Quilts. It is a Christmas Tree block and is inspired by their Christmas Tree farm. How cool is that.
You can download the pattern on April’s blog. Click on the name Janda Bend Quilts to go to her blog post and the pattern.
Fabric selection for this block.
I chose 3 different leafy greens for my trees and I nice neutral background. Plus a super piece of wood grain scrap, that I have been hoarding since the beginning of time. I just knew I was going to need that piece someday.
Here is my version of the block.
Tip for this block.
Make sure that you 1/4 inch seam is accurate. Otherwise you block will not come out at the correct size. Play around with your machine to find out where your 1/4 inch sits. I have a very old Bernina, where all the lines and grooves have nearly worn down. So I think I might measure and stick a strip down to use a s guide for future blocks.
Most of you who has followed me for awhile, will know that I LOVE paper piecing. Mainly because I just can’t get my 1/4 inch seam accurate enough for traditional piecing. I decided to try it this way for this tree block, and I don’t think I did to bad. My tree trunks are a bit on the short side.
Start by cutting out all the templates, then trace the shapes on the backside of you fabric with a fabric pencil or erasable marker. I used a water erasable marker here.
Cut out all the shapes. I used my rotary cutter, but you could use scissors.
The tree shapes are ready.
Follow all the instructions in the pattern you will download.
Quilt as you go…
In the beginning I decided to go quilt as you go with this quilt along. Thinking it would only be me. But wow, so many people are quilting as you go with me. I just love it. You are all awesome.
So to continue with the QAYG method.
I decided to quilt little Christmas Trees into the blank blocks in between the trees.
I added some lines to the picture below so that you can see how I quilted it.
Starting on the left in the top row next the the tree trunk, go across, up the trunk, around the tree top, down the trunk and across to the next tree.
