I Wish You A Merry Quilt Along Block Five Plus Prizes

I Wish You A Merry Quilt Along Block Five Plus Prizes

Don’t forget, besides the prizes you can win each week, there is also a big prize for everyone who posts a finished quilt at the end.

Here are some of the sponsors for the BIG prize that you can win at the end of the quilt along.

And now for block 5.

This block is designed by Sherry Shish from Powered By Quilting (click this link for the pattern download page). It is the Snowman block.

Fabric selection for this block.

I chose a nice bright green for the background, white for the snowman and red and black for the hat.

Here is my version of the block.

I chose green thread for the background fabric and invisible thread for the rest of the block.

Stitch in the ditch all the way around each item, like the hat, band, the scarf and snowman.

The nose is machine appliqued in place.

Then switch to your quilting or darning foot, and make a meander all over the background. Or be more creative, and quilt some snowflakes.

For the snowman, I used some water erasable marker, and drew some pebble shapes on his body, and quilted the pebbles. The marks will wash out and leave a beautiful texture. The idea is that it would look like handfuls of snow patted down while you make your snowman.

The Hosts for the Quilt Along

Please go and have a look at all the hosts posts today. Each of the host will be making all the blocks throughout the Quilt Along and will be providing tips and hints to help you along they way. Plus they will help answer any questions you may have. And it will be awesome to see all the different fabric that is being used by every host, to help you make a decision for your own.

  1. Love it! It’s neat watching your quilting choices as we go along. Pebbles are one of my favorite designs.

      Thank you Becca,

Pebbles was the most difficult quilting motive to learn. I still find fault. But I decided to just draw those circles and go with it.

  2. I love your pebble snowpack body. I enjoy watching your quilt as you go choices.

  3. Love your snowman Vanda, especially the pebbles you have quilted onto the body gives amazing texture looks like he’s made of mini snowballs!

  4. I really like that pebbly quilting. I would like to see a picture at some point without the blue lines. I think that was very clever of you!

  5. Hi Vanda, I love your Snowman! The green fabric is so pretty and the pebble quilting is perfect for snowball effect.⛄️

  6. Love your snowman and your quilting hints. This QAL is so much fun.
