And now for block 10.

This fortnight’s block is a Christmas lantern designed by Diane at Cwilt Fabrics & Haberdashery. You can find the pattern and tutorial for the block on her blog here.

Here is my finished Christmas Lantern block.

Quilting the block

Below is a couple of close up photos of the quilting on this block.

I started by stitching in the ditch around the lantern.

The blanket stitched around all the applique pieces. You can hand stitch or machine stitch this.

And finally I did from free-motion meandering in the background.

The Hosts for the Quilt Along

Please go and have a look at all the hosts posts today. Each of the host will be making all the blocks throughout the Quilt Along and will be providing tips and hints to help you along they way. Plus they will help answer any questions you may have. And it will be awesome to see all the different fabric that is being used by every host, to help you make a decision for your own.

  1. Your lantern turned out so pretty!! Is the background a dark blue like in the first pic or a purple like in the close up pics?

    1. Author

Dark blue, like in the first picture . ?

  2. I love how much dimension the block has after quilting! Great job! And the yellow fabric was perfect for the lantern!

  3. Your block is great. I’m loving watching you do this as quilt as you go. I’m getting really excited for your final setting tutorial.
