Harvest Basket Quilt As You Go

Harvest Basket Quilt As You Go

And! I am so behind in showing the quilt as you go with all the Fall Into A Quilt Along block.

This is the second block that was released, the Harvest Basket. I decided to try doing a bit of quilting on the block to make it look a little bit like basket weave.

Now, I failed all of you on this one, as I did not take enough or decent photos during the process. But took some close ups, I after I was finished.

This is the basket handle and the background.

And the body of the basket.

That is unfortunately all I have for this block. For more in formation on how to prepare and sandwich your blocks, see my previous post herehttps://chittenden.co.za/hedgehog-quilt-as-you-go/

I will be back in a couple of days with a proper tutorial on how to quilt as you the next block.

Someone asked about sashing for my quilt. This quilt will not have sashing as such. Only the strips attaching the blocks together. You can see what I am talking about here, with last year quilt as you go project.  https://chittenden.co.za/i-wish-you-a-merry-quilt-along-quilt-as-you-go-layout/

Happy sewing!

Hedgehog Quilt As You Go

Standard

Hedgehog Quilt As You Go.

Remember I did not applique stitch the shapes down, as I wanted to stitch them down after I made my quilt sandwich.

Start with making sure your shapes are heat pressed down properly.

Then make a quilt sandwich, making sure that you batting and your backing is slightly bigger than your block.

Baste your sandwich in any method you like.

The back

Then once you picked your design to quilt, draw it onto your block with an erasable pen. I decie

Applique stitch around each shape, either by hand or with your machine.

Look, a hedgehog shape on the back!

Straight line stitch the grass at the bottom.

Then free motion stitch swirly shapes for the wind around the hedgehog.

I added an additional squiggly line in the body of the hedgehog to make it look more spiky.

Happy sewing.

Fall Into a Qal Introduction

Fall Into a Qal Introduction

Fall Into a Qal Introduction

Welcome to the introduction to our new Quilt Along called Fall Into a Qal starting 15 May 2018. The theme as you have guessed from the designed is Fall. You should be very easily be able to finish this quilt by fall.

There will be 12 blocks from 10 designers, plus 7 hosts. The hosts will be making all the blocks, showing different skills sets.

I have decided to do all my blocks as quilt as you go again, like last year. But instead of posting the information the same day as the block, I will do a follow up post the week after a block release with how I quilted each block.

All the blocks are designed by our Quilt Group called

Fall Into a Qal Introduction

And let us not forget about the prizes. We will have prices for each block that you complete, and a grand prize at the end, for each quilt top that you complete.

“To keep the contest portion of the quilt-along fair and fun for everyone, only quilts that use all of the designers’ blocks will be eligible for prizes. Likewise, our bi-weekly giveaways will only be open to those that make the designer’s block for that fortnight.”

Fall Into a Qal Introduction

You will need about 2 yards of back ground fabric, this does not include yardage for sashing or backing for the quilt.

And each block will be 12 inches squared.

Keep your eyes peeled for the first block to be released on 15 May 2018.

Please also visit all the the other hosts and designers, to see what they have to say about the quilt along coming up.
